Power shutdown in North India due to grid failure

Chandigarh, Oct 12 (UNI) Power supply in several parts of Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi was disrupted today due to disturbance in the Northern Grid at about 1250 hrs.

However, Gurgaon and Faridabad belt of Haryana remained uneffected.

A spokesman of the Haryana Power Utilities said immediate steps were taken for restoration of power to ensure the supply to all essential services.

He said that with the persistent efforts of the employees of Utilities the power supply was restored within less than one hour.

He said Panipat Thermal Plant had started power generation before 1730 hrs. Efforts were on to bring back the remaining generating units in minimum possible time.

The officers of Haryana Vidyut Prasarn Nigam were monitoring the power supply position, he said.

However, he said, the reasons of grid tripping were not immediately known and the situation was unavoidable.
