New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi today strongly denied that some Congress leaders had described the Left parties as stooges of China on the issue of the Indo-US nuclear deal.
''I can say with certainty nobody in our party has accused the Left of being stooges of China,'' Ms Gandhi said, fielding questions at the Hindustan Times Leadership summit here.
''I don't think people have gone and attacked the Left...Our people have explained the position of the government,'' she said.
The UPA government would try its best and work towards bringing about a consensus with the Left, the Congress President said.
The government had never been ''hostile'' towards the Left and had only explained its position ''clearly and firmly.'' She further said confrontation was not part of the coalition dharma and she did not feel that the Left was unreasonable in its opposition to the deal.
