Mumbai, Oct 12 (UNI) Mumbai has been chosen as the venue for two of the most technical and infrastructural intensive events, sailing and triathlon, stated the Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Western Naval Command Vice Admiral J S Bedi today.
The Military World Games are being held in Hyderabad consisting of 13 sporting events while Mumbai will hold the sailing and triathlon events from October 14 to 21.
Talking to reporters, Vice Admiral Bedi said that Mumbai will play host to over 350 athletes, officials and guests from over 35 countries. However, the teams will arrive a day prior to the event and depart one day later.
Sailing will be contested by men and women yachtsmen at the Indian Naval Watermanship Training Centre at Pilot Bunder in Colaba from October 16 to 19 while triathlon will be held at Girgaum Chowpatty and Marine Drive.
The events will be inaugurated with an oath taking ceremony on October 14 at Kohli Stadium, Colaba.
The sailing competition will consist of 12 races spread over four days and will be conducted in the enterprise class of boats. Each team will consist of two members.
Triathlon will be conducted on October 21 at Girgaum Chowpatty and Marine Drive from 0630 hrs to 0930 hrs in which the athletes are required to swim 1.5 km followed by cycling of 40 km and then running for 10 km thus making the total distance 51.5 km. On the same day au-revoir ceremony and farewell dinner will be organised, he added.
Each country will field a team of five men and five women athlete to compete in individual and team events.
