Guntur, Oct 12 (UNI) Tension prevailed in Ponnur town following the arrest of Telugu Desam Party MLA D Narendra for his role in the agitation against the proposal to shift the Andhra Pradesh owned road transport corporation bus depot from Ponnur in Guntur district here.
Two days ago, a court here issued a non-bailable warrants against 20 TDP activists, including the Legislator, for confining the Ponnur Bus Depot Manager on September 12, 2006.
The MLA and eight others went to the police station and surrendered.
About 1,000 party sympathisers who accompanied the MLA, demanded that they should also be arrested.
As the police declined to oblige them, they resorted road roko before the police station and shouted anti government slogans yesterday night.
The MLA and others were produced before the the judicial first class magistrate who remanded them in judicial custody till October 25.
