Bhopal, Oct 12 (UNI) Union Minister for Human Resources Development Arjun Singh today said the Left parties' pressure on the Indo-US Nuclear deal was ''not improper in a democratic set-up''.

He was replying to newsmen's queries on the left parties' pressure on the UPA government against the nuclear agreement on the sidelines of a function to mark the foundation stone laying for the construction of a Kendriya Vidyalaya building here.

Asked whether the nuclear deal was necessary for the country, Mr Singh said the Congress-led UPA government had already approved the agreement.

Asked about the possibility of mid-term elections, the senior Congress leader said he could not comprehend the basis for such talks. ''It was such an issue that only political parties could decide on it'', he added.

Commenting on the reported irregularities and nepotism in Bhopal-based Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, the HRD Minister said directives had been issued to initiate action on the basis of the inquiry report.
