Itanagar, Oct 12 (UNI) Union Minister of State (Independent) for Housing, Urban Poverty Alleviation Kumari Selja today described the persisting demand of the Northeastern states for 100 per cent funding for all central projects for the region as genuine and assured to convince the Centre on the issue.

She said though the region has been getting 90 per cent grant as against 50 to 80 per cent given to other states, the region's necessity demands 100 per cent funding to which she has drawn the attention of he Planning Commission (PC).

Ms Selja was addressing a function after inaugurating 60 units of cost effective houses for safai karmacharis at Senki View here and laying the foundation stone for a Rs.13 crore shopping complex for unemployed women and a women hostel here.

The UPA government launched the maiden Rs. 50,000 crore Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) under its common minimum programme to reform 63 cities including mega cities, medium and small towns throughout the country in 7 years, she said, adding it aimed at improving the cities and towns to withstand increasing pressure of population growth accentuated by rural-to-urban exodus.

Responding to the state's urban development minister Nabam Tuki's plea to sanction more schemes including the Rs. 1,788 crore city development project (CDP) to develop 26 urban centers in the state, she disclosed that she was instrumental in the sanctioning of such housing complexes for the poorer section at Itanagar, Tawang, Seppa, Daporijo, Pasighat and Roing. She said Rs. 1 crore was released for the market complex.

Appreciating Hindustan Pre-fab Ltd. (HPL), the first central public sector undertaking, for executing the project, she hoped that it would execute other projects in time. Later, HPL CMD J Srivastava signed an MoU with UD secretary Vandana Deori for increasing cooperation in project implementations.

Ms Selja, who arrived here yesterday on her maiden trip, assured that she would visit other parts of Arunachal on her next trip. She also handed over house keys to four sweepers.
