Five meritorious inventions get NRDC awards

New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) The National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) today announced awards for five meritorious inventions for 2007.

The Corporation, under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, also announced two WIPO gold medals, including one for the best woman inventor, on behalf of the World Intellectual Property Organisation (a Geneva Based UN sub-system).

Dr R Chidambaram, Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government, will give away the NRDC Awards-- Rs one lakh each-- here on Monday.

The WIPO medals will be presented to the inventors next year.

The WIPO gold medal for the best invention of the year went to Dr Vagish Shrinet&Associate of Electrical Research and Development Association, Makarpura, Baroda for their invention 'Fault Current Limiter for LT Switchgear and Appliances'.

Dr Mookandi Kanthimathi of Central Leather Research Institute, Adyar, Chennai got the WIPO gold medal For best woman inventor for the invention, 'A High Performance Syntan for Eco-benign Chrome Tanning.

The NRDC awardees are: -- Mehi Lal Yadav of Katihar, Bihar for design and development of 'Jhoola Pump' which delivers water from the borewell using seesaw action.

-- Vinod H Kalbande, Prakash G. Shinde and Dilip P Dhote of Maharashtra State Seeds Corporation Limited, (MSSCL) Akola, for 'Design and Development of Pollution-Free Cotton Seed Delinking Plant'.

-- Dr Mookandi Kanthimathi, Dr Jonnalagadda Raghava Rao, Dr Palanisamy Thanikaivelan, Dr Balachandran Unni Nair and Dr Thirumalachari Ramasami of Central Leather Research Institute, Adyar, Chennai for the development of 'A High Performance Syntan for Eco-benign Chrome Tanning.

-- Dr Goutam De and Mr Samar Kumar Medda of Central Glass&Ceramics Research Institute, Kolkata (West Bengal) for 'Anti-scratch Coatings on Plastic Ophthalmic Lenses and Sheets Using Inorganic-Organic Hybrid Nanocomposites'.

-- Dr Vagish Shrinet and Dr Mukesh K Shah of Electrical Research and Development Association, Makarpura, Baroda for 'Fault Current Limiter for LT Switchgear and Appliances'.
