Corporators demand security for joint municipal commissioner V Radha

Mumbai, Oct 12 (UNI) Opposition leader in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Raj Hans Singh today demanded security for joint Municipal Commissioner (Improvement) V Radha, who has been getting threats from the octroi mafia for her action on the agents since she took charge of the octroi department, a few months back.

Ms Radha has dealt with the octroi agents with a strong hand and has increased the octroi revenue by bringing to book all the agents and officials who have been working together in evading octroi for many years.

Ms Radha has cracked down on most of the illegal activities of the octroi department, and has confiscated many vehicles that evaded octroi at the various entry points.

Corporators, cutting across party lines, supported Mr Singh in the House today, and congratulated Ms Radha on her action against the octroi agents who evaded duties, and for increasing the revenue of the department.

Corporators said that security should be provided to all the octroi officials who do their duty honestly and are trying to increase the revenue for the department.

The collection of the octroi department last year was Rs 3,000 crore and the department has been given a target of Rs 4,000 crore this year.
