New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) Accusing the Congress of developing cold feet on its stand on implementing the Nuclear deal, the BJP today said the ruling party has taken a 'U-turn' on the issue fearing loss of power.
Senior BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu said the statements of Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh speaking of re-negotiating the nuclear deal at the HT Leadership Summit was in conformity with the party's trait of following the principle of ''one step forward three steps backward''.
It will be NDA which will renegotiate the nuclear deal with the United States and not Congress, and that would be after elections to Lok Sabha, he claimed.
Nobody will have the fear of India's sovereignty and independence being at stake when NDA assumes power. The Left parties which were now crying fowl on the issue did not have political will to discipline the government they were propping up, he said.
Mr Naidu said in a democracy, the Prime Minister and the Government should be transparent enough to take into confidence the Opposition and the people of the country before entering into a negotiation, but here the fight is over even before the battle has begun, he said recalling the Prime Minister's statement that it was not possible to renegotiate the nuclear deal cleared by the Union Cabinet.
Ms Gandhi went to the extent of dubbing all those opposing the deal as the ones who were opposed to development but was now claiming that her statement was intended at Haryana politics and not at the national level, he added.
