New Delhi, Oct 12 (UNI) Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today launched a massive tree plantation programme at Chhatarpur Temple, under which 72,000 saplings will be planted.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms Dikshit said trees have been a priority for the government, and in this endeavour, nine new city forests are being created at various places in the capital. In addition, 18.9 lakh tree saplings are proposed to be planted during the current year.
The Chief Minister informed that 72,000 saplings would be planted out which 15000 at Mehrauli Range, 5000 at Water Bodies, 1000 at Hauzrani City Forest, 50,000 at Asola-Bhatti Wild Life Sanctuary and 1000 at Chhatarpur Temple would be planted during current financial year.
About 300 children from Shri Adya Katyayani Shaktipeeth primary school participated in the tree plantation programme.
