Arjun lauds central schools' role

Bhopal, Oct 12 (UNI) Lauding the Central Schools Organisation's contribution to sports, Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh today said that central schools -- which did not consider bookish knowledge alone as their objective -- did the country proud by supplying several renowned sportspersons.

''Ace marksmen Lieutenant-Colonel Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, Jaspal Rana and swimmer Rashmi Sharma were central school students,'' the Minister -- who is the Organisation's ex-officio Chairman -- was addressing the inaugural function of the 38th Central Schools Organisation National Sports Meet at the Tantya Tope Stadium here.

Pointing out that central schools attempted overall development of students, the Chief Guest added that such sports events acted as a binding force for the country.

Madhya Pradesh Finance Minister Raghavji expressed gratitude to Mr Singh for organising the five-day Meet here for the first time.

Organisation Commissioner Ranglal Jamuda was among those present.

About 6,000 studnts from all 18 sectors of the Organisation are taking part in a total 19 disciplines including athletics, swimming, badminton, hockey, basketball and cricket.
