Guwahati, Oct 11 (UNI) The dawn to dusk Upper Assam bandh called by the outlawed ULFA today was complete in all the areas and passed off peacefully.

The ULFA had called the bandh in the five districts of Sibsagar, Golaghat, Jorhat, Lakhimpur and Karbi Anglong protesting against the killing of its leader, 'sergeant major' Rajib Saikia alias Rikheswar Deka Baruah, in Sibsagar district a couple of days back.

The outfit had claimed in a statement to the local media that Saikia and a woman cadre Mamu had wanted to surrender, but the security forces gunned down Saikia and arrested Mamu.

The bandh paralysed life in all the five districts. Vehicular traffic was completely disrupted and roads wore a deserted look.

Private establishments and educational institutions remained closed. Attendance in government offices was also thin.

No incident of violence has been reported from any part so far.
