Tribal legislators welcome simultaneous polls in tribal areas
Shimla, Oct 11 (UNI) Three tribal legislators of Himachal Pradesh today welcomed the Election Commisison's decision to conduct simultaneous elections to three tribal seats of Kinnaur, Bharmour and Lahual-Spiti with the remaining 65 seats.
''On earlier occasions, the elections to the tribal seats were held six months after the remaining assembly elections and will play a part in electing the state government,'' Thakur Singh Bharmauri told reporters.
He said the results of these seats had little or no relevance in the formation of the state government, which had been elected by voters of the remaining constituencies.
Echoing similar views Jagat Singh Negi, Kinnuar legislator, said since the results of the three seats would be announced along with the rest of the state, they would play an important part in the formation of the state government.
On earlier occasions, the party with majority in the assembly usually cornored all the three seats, which would not be the case this time, he said.
Elections to the three tribal seats were usually held six months after polls in the 65 seats due to extreme climate and heavy snow in these areas.
