Talathi gets 3 yrs imprisonment for accepting Rs 1,000 bribe
Kolhapur, Oct 11 (UNI) A local court today sentenced a talathi to three years imprisonment for accepting a bribe of Rs 1,000 from a farmer in January 2002.
Special court judge R V Kulkarni found Baburao Ganpati Bhoi guilty under section 13(1) of Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Act and awarded the sentence. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000.
According to prosecution, the Maharashtra government acquired the agricultural land of Mahipati Babu Patil, a resident of village Sakhe in Kagal tehsil of the district, for construction of an irrigation canal.
Mr Patil approached Bhoi to get his papers cleared so that he could claim adequate compensation from the government for his land.
However, Bhoi demanded Rs 1,000 as bribe to clear his papers.
Then, Mr Patil approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) and registered a complaint against the talathi. A ACB team laid a trap and caught Bhoi red-handed while accepting the bribe money from Mr Patil on January 23, 2002.
