Srinagar, Oct 11 (UNI) A militant was killed and three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were wounded when two fidayeen stormed a camp of the para-military force in a hotel on the busy Boulevard Road here today.
Elsewhere in the Jammu and Kashmir, a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO), Chief Commander (Operational) of Jamait-ul-Mujahideen (JuM) and two infiltrators were among nine people killed during the past 24 hours, an official spokesman said today.
A CRPF spokesman said the 'fidayeen', attacked the CRPF's 144 battalion lodged in the Hotel Boulevard on the banks of famed Dal Lake here this evening after 'Iftar' (breaking of fast) with grenades and also opened heavy volume of fire with automatic weapons.
He said one fidayeen was killed and three CRPF men two constables and a 'safai karamchari' (sweeper) were wounded in the suicide attack.
He said while the operation was on, the firing has stopped.
The attack came barely few hours ahead of the coming into force a three-day unilateral ceasefire declared by the Muzaffarabad- based United Jehad Council (UJC) on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr.
A CRPF official at the encounter site told UNI that the operation would be suspended for the night and resumed with the first light tomorrow morning.
