Police file FIR on scientists attack incident

Udupi, Oct 11 (UNI) Police have filed an FIR on the incident in which seven scientists of National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) were attacked by some unknown miscreants in mid sea recently.

Talking to UNI, Western Range Inspector General of Police(IGP) A M Prasad said the FIR was filed at Padubidre police station last night.

''Over three crore worth electronic equipment were thrown into sea by the assailants,'' he said.

He said the incident took place on October 8 when the scientists belonging to NIO's Regional Centre were conducting a survey in Arabian sea.

None of the assailants were identified so far, he said.

In a letter to District Police, Mr Subramaniam, one of the scientists, who was attacked, said a group of unidentified people intercepted and attacked them while they were conducting a survey in Arabian sea.
