MC's death sparks agitation
Karnal, Oct 11 (UNI) The death of Municipal Councillor Roshni Devi has sparked agitation here as hundreds of Dalits, led by her kith and kin, today gheraoed the local Tagore Hospital where she was operated for stones in the kidney.
The relatives of Roshni Devi alleged that she was seemingly not operated in a proper way leading to deterioration in her condition and subsequent death yesterday. They raised slogans demanding the arrest of the doctors.
After remaining in Tagore Hospital of Dr Naresh Kaushal for four days, she was shifted to another private hospital 'Amrit Dhara' run by Dr Rajiv Gupta yesterday morning. As her condition worsened she was referred to PGI Chandigarh and died on the way.
Both the doctors were booked under section 304 of IPC and a posse of policemen posted in front of both the hospitals to contain any untoward happening, A S P Jagat Singh Hooda told UNI.
Hundreds of protesters took to the streets as the body of the MC was handed over to them after the autopsy. Moving from Civil Hospital to Kunjipura road, they converged at the main chowk of the city- Commitee Chowk with a large contingent of police force moving along.
Raising slogans against the administration they demanded immediate arrest of the doctors.
