Marine patrolling to prevent infiltration
Kochi, Oct 11 (UNI) In view of the increased infiltration threat from the coast, police was planning to step up marine patrolling off this commercial nerve centre of Kerala, city Police Commissioner Manoj Abraham said today.
Addressing a press conference here, he said while there was no specific threat about infiltration by any terrorist operatives, there was likelihood of the marine route being used for the smuggling of arms and explosives by anti-social elements.
In view of this, the police was planning to acquire some patrol vessels to beef up operations of the marine police. Patrolling could be carried out to an extent of five nautical miles with the help of these vessels, he said.
There was a need for increased collaboration between the Police, Coast Guard and the Navy for guarding the coastline, he added.
