Manipur govt bans crackers during festivals
Imphal, Oct 11 (UNI) The Manipur government has banned the sale and use of crackers in the state during festivals.
Imphal West Deputy Commissioner (DC) A Ibocha Singh said he had received a police report stating that there was ''likelihood of causing serious annoyance to the general public in view of the volatile law and order situation in the district if there is no control or ban on sale and use of crackers during the ensuing Durga Puja and Laxmi Puja festivals.'' The DC said confusion due to the bursting of crackers might result in serious breach of peace and disturbance to the public, to prevent which, the ban was imposed.
The sale and use of crackers was banned under sub-section (2) of Section 144 of the CrPC, he added.
