Chandigarh, Oct 11 (UNI) A group of Latin American and Carribean Ambassadors concluded their two-day political-cum-business tour of Punjab with a meeting with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal here today.
'' This is just a political tour conducted with the hope that it will open near areas of cooperation and trade between India and the Latin American and Caribbean countries'', Ambassador of Venezuela Mrs Milena Santana Ramirez, the group leader said while talking to mediapersons just prior to the group meeting with Mr Badal.
The purpose of this tour is to connect the Indian politicians with those in South America and the Carribean, Mr Varnunesh Tuli a member of the group explained. '' This connection will open the markets of different South American and Carribean countries to India and vice versa'', Mr Tuli explained while pointing out that Punjab had taken a lead in conducting this visit.
Pointing out that vast tracts of agricultural land existed in some of the South American countries, certain members of the delegation felt that a tie with Punjab could be of immense help. The delegation had earlier in the day, visited Punjab Agricultural University at Ludhiana to get information about the success of Punjab agriculture.
Recognising India to be a major economic player on the globe, the Venezuelian Ambassador said this tour would definately lead to future investments and trade.
Besides Ms Ramirez and Mr Tuli, the other members of the group included the Ambassador of Argentina Ernesto Carlose Alvarez , Ambassador of Cuba Miguel Angel Ramirez, CDA of Chile Ricardo Leon, Ambassador of Ecuador Carlos Abad, High Commissioner of Guyana J Ronald Gajraj, Ambassador of Mexico Rogelio Granguillhome, CDA of Paraguay Genaro Pappalardo, CDA of Peru Carlos Alberto Yrigoyen, and Ambassador of Dominican Republic Hans Dannenberg, .
