Gandhinagar, Oct 11 (UNI) Gujarat Governor Naval Kishore Sharma today cancelled the Tribal Welfare Review meeting, scheduled to be held on October 15 at Raj Bhavan, due to Model Code of Conduct applicable in view of the announcement of ensuing state Legislative Assembly elections on December 11 and 16.

The Governor, who is chairman of the Tribal Welfare, had called a meeting on October 15 to review the progress on the various developmental and welfare schemes being implemented in the tribal areas of the state.

Earlier, Mr Sharma had called a meeting on October 5 to discuss the tribal welfare but the same was later postponed mid-way following the intervention by BJP tribal MLA Ramilaben Bara.

Ms Bara argued that since senior BJP tribal MPs Kanjibhai Patel and Mansukh Vasava were not invited to the meeting, it was not fair on the part of Raj Bhavan to discuss the issues concerning the tribal community in their absence. Hence, she demanded that the meet be postponed to another date.

Then, the Governor had postponed the meeting to October 15 to pave way for the tribal MPs to attend the review meeting.
