Chennai, Oct 11 (UNI) A functionary of the Dalit Panthers of India (DPI) was today arrested by the ''Q'' Branch police, dealing with terror related cases, on the charges of smuggling arms for the banned LTTE.
According to the police, the DPI functionary, Vanniarasu who was also the spokesman of the party, was arrested after he received some arms and mechanical parts from abroad in a few parcels bearing his name.
The Customs officials stumbled on two parcels containing propellers from a cargo ferry and were addressed to Vanniarasu.
They immediately alerted the ''Q'' Branch police, who seized the propellers.
Police suspected that the items were meant for smuggling to Sri Lanka to be handed over to the LTTE.
