Fatehabad, Oct 11 (UNI) The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana has issued notification for the election of its 25 members.
The members will be elected by advocates practicing in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and various district, sub-division and tehsil courts in the state of Punjab and Haryana.
The notification issued by Rajiv Duggal, secretary-cum-returning officer of the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana stated that a minimum of 13 members out of these 25 will be elected from amongst advocates who on the relevant dates have been on the roll for at least ten years.
According to the schedule of election released by the council, nominations for the elections will be made on October 31 and November 1. The scrutiny of nominations will be held on November 3.
The nominations could be withdrawn on November 7.
The polling will be held on December 7 at Chandigarh and on December 8 in the district, sub-division and tehsil courts.
The counting of votes will be held in the office of Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh or any other place to be decided later, the notification said.
Meanwhile, over a hundred advocates from Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh have already begun their campaign for the election.
Majority of sitting members of the council are seeking re-election this time.
