Arjun To Attend UNESCO Paris Meet Oct. 16-21

New Delhi, Oct 11 (UNI) Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh will lead India's delegation to the 34th General Conference of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation scheduled at Paris, France, from October 16-21.

The biennial Conference will be held from October 16 to November 3.

Singh will attend its Plenary from October 16-21 and address the General Policy Debate on October 19.

The Indian delegation also includes Science and Technology Minister Kapil Sibal, Members of Parliament, government officials and experts.

The main agenda of the Conference is to consider and approve the UNESCO's Draft Programme and Budget for 2008-09 and Draft Medium Term Strategy for 2008-13.

Its agenda includes: -- UNESCO Director General's Report on Education For All; -- Draft of a declaration of principles on cultural objects displaced in connection with the Second World War; -- A consolidated report on steps taken by governments to implement the recommendations on promoting multilingualism and access to cyberspace; -- Enhancing protection of cultural objects through the fight against their illicit trafficking and developing museums in poor countries; and -- Elections to various UNESCO committees and bodies.
