AP to phase out autorickshaws in twin cities
Hyderabad, Oct 11 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh government today decided to phase out autorickshaws and replace them with taxis with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits.
After a review meeting with Transport Minister K Lakshminarayana, Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said the phasing out of autos would take place over a period of four years.
He said the government would help the auto drivers, who will come forward to replace their vehicles with Taxis, secure bank loans to the tune of Rs four lakh at 'pavala vaddi' (25 paise) interest.
Meanwhile, the transport department officials said a meeting had been convened with the Auto union members on October 24 to discuss digital meter installation.
They said a committee constituted by the government to look into the issue had submitted its report to the government.
