Indore, Oct 11: At least 24 people were arrested and six others, including a Sub-Registrar, were suspended in connection with the land purchase scandal involving those displaced by Sardar Sarovar Project on the Narmada river to claim special rehabilitation package.
Of the total 2696 farmer beneficiaries of SRP, documents submitted by 1472 farmers had been scrutinised after the scandal came to light and 262 land purchase documents were found bogus, official sources said, adding 24 people, including a Patwari, had been arrested.
Under SRP, farmers were given cash in advance for purchasing land of their choice and they had to submit the land registry documents, but many were found bogus.
A total of 150 FIRs had been registered so far after the state government decided to take stern action against those involved in the scandal.
Khargone's Sub-Registrar Surendra Kori was among those suspended, sources said.
