Mysore, Oct 10 (UNI) The City police authorities have made tight, but people friendly security arrangements for the conduct of the world famous Mysore Dasara festivities, which begins here on October 12.
Addressing media persons here, City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao said that in view of terror threats, a number of security measures have been taken as tourists from across the country were expected to visit the city during the ten-day festivities.
More than 5,500 personnel, including police and home guards,ten KSRP platoons and ten others of central armed reserve force would be deployed. Special teams like bomb detection and disposal squads and sniffer dogs would be kept ready, he said.
Help from neighbouring districts and neighbouring States such as Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh had been sought, he said.
The central intelligence and intelligence teams from other states were camping in the city following a general security alert, especially after the recent twin blasts in Hyderabad.
Mr Rao said 65 closed circuit television sets would be installed at vantage points in the city throughout the festivities.
Besides, 60 videographers would be on duty during cultural programmes. For the first time, invitations to important personalitites and media persons would be bar coded.
He said the police team would keep round the clock vigil at check posts, monitor the entry of all vehicles into the city and conduct random checks. In addition to the entry points, security at popular tourist spots in and around the city had also been tightened.
Meanwhile, owners of hotels and lodges have been given instructions to remain alert and watch suspicious persons checking into their premises.
He also requested railway and transport authorities to install CCTVs during the festivities.
