Mumbai, Oct 10 (UNI) Designated court judge P D Kode has allowed extradited gangster Abu Salem to attend the funeral of his mother at Azamgad in Uttar Pradesh on October 12.
Ashrafi Begum had died yesterday at a hospital in neighbouring Thane where she had been admitted after she complained of high blood pressure.
Abu Salem had urged the designated TADA court to allow him to carry his mother's body to his native place Azamgad for the last rites. He told the court that it was his mother's wish that her last rites be performed at their native village. Abu Salem, however, had not moved a formal application in this regard.
Judge Kode allowed Abu Salem to go to Azamgad. He directed the Arthur Road Jail authorities to ensure adequate security for escorting the gangster to his native village and bring him back immediately after the last rites were performed.
