Punjab Cabinet's nod for commercial utilisation of govt land

Chandigarh, Oct 10 (UNI) The Punjab Cabinet today approved the Optimum Utilisation of Vacant Government Land (OUVGL) through commercial exploitation by the Punjab Infrastructure Development Board (PIDB).

The Cabinet approved that instead of empowered committee earlier constituted by the Council of Ministers, on eight-member executive committee of the PIDB under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary be entrusted for taking all decisions pertaining to the implementation of the OUVGL schemes through PIDB.

The Cabinet meeting was held here today under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal.

The Cabinet also gave its approval for the constitution of educational tribunals covering all aided and un-aided educational institutions in the State through the promulgation of an Ordinance.

The Cabinet also approved the restructuring of Punjab State Tubewell Corporation as Punjab Water Resources Management and Development Corporation to promote schemes for execution, improvement and management of major, medium and minor irrigation projects or enterprises, The Corpration would also take up construction and management of canals, remodeling or renovation of existing canal systems, lining of canals and other connected works on behalf of the Punjab government, government companies and central government corporations.

The newly restructured corporation would also undertake research and development of design techniques of irrigation structure, computerisation and creation of data bank.

The Cabinet also gave its nod for restoration, conservation, upkeep, maintenance and reuse of Quila Nabha through public private participation.
