New Delhi, Oct 10 (UNI) The three New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) women hostels here have abruptly stopped catering services, causing inconvenience to the inmates.

''We can't say when the catering services will be resumed in these hostels but there is no possibility for at least two months,'' Mr Anand Tiwari, Director (Public Relation), NDMC said.

Facing incovenience due to the abandoned catering service, some inmates have even shifted from the hostel temporarily.

''It is becoming really difficult for us to continue here.. the hostel does not even have a cooking facility of its own,'' Gurpreet Rajpal, a resident of one of the hostels told UNI.

The hostel inmates had no prior information about the move.

''We were informed just a day before the hostel catering service was stopped,'' Ruchi Batra of Aakansha Hostel said.

''I have to skip most of my meals these days. The warden of the hostel also seems to be clueless about when the service wil start,'' one of the hostelers said.

The catering services in these hostels was stopped from September 21 and even after more then a fortnight now, no alternative food arrangement has been made by the hostel authorities, says Sheena Batra.

Raising the issue of security of women around the hostel after sunset Ms Rajpal of Aakansha hostel said, ''A few months back an inmate of Aakansha hostel was attacked by a miscreant with a rod while she was on her way to the hostel fromthe bus stop.'' ''We have informed the hostel authorities about the security problem faced by us several times, but they seem to have no effect,'' she said adding that a police post built in front of the hostel, but was lying vacant.

''We had asked the DCP to provide a separate PCR van for patrolling around the hostel but he refused,'' said Mr Tiwari when asked about the issue.

NDMC runs three girls hostels--'Swati' at Mandir Marg, 'Indira Niketan' at Laxmi Bai Nagar and 'Aakansha' at Bhagwan Dass Lane which accomodate 500 girls from across the country.
