Agartala, Oct 10 (UNI) Tribal-based opposition Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) and its two frontal organisations today took out a rally here in favour of its 27- charter of demands.
INPT General Secretary Rabindra Debbarma told UNI that all the demands of the party were related to life and culture of the 19 tribal clans of the state.
The demands included introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) and withdraw of land allotment to the non-tribals in autonomous district council area.
Among other demands were codification of tribal's customary laws, to make Kokborak (tribal language) compulsory as a medium of official communication, ensure more economic and administrative power to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and announcement of tribal policy in the state.
'' We feel that the Left Front government was depriving the indigenous people from their rights and were misguiding them to keep away from democratic movements,'' Mr Debbarma alleged and added that land cultivated by tribals for decades was being dug up for plantations by forest departments to pre-empt the recognition of the tribal rights on that land.
