Cheque for Rs 29 leads to amendment of rules
Bhopal, Oct 10 (UNI) Villagers and farmers affected by natural calamities have begun receiving proper relief amounts after rules were amended and a suspended tahsildar was reinstated who issued a cheque for a mere Rs 29 to a villager.
''I had accompanied Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Couhan to a village in Seoni district to distribute relief amounts. The tahsildar wished to hand over the cheque but I stopped him as the villager would have to spend more in obtaining the cash,'' Madhya Pradesh Revenue Minister Kamal Patel said today at a Meet-the-Press programme organised by the Central Press Club here.
The official was suspended forthwith but then had to be reinstated as he was only following the rules.
