BJYM to observe ''Ravana podi'' week in Orissa

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10 (UNI) The Orissa unit of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), the youth wing of the BJP, today announced the observing of ''Ravanpanthi Podi week'' (burning of supporters of Ravana) in one thousand places from October 12 to 18 all over the state.

BYJM President Bibhuti Jena told newsmen here that the week would be observed to protest the Congress led UPA government's decision to demolish the age old Ram sethu to facilitate the construction of Setusamudrum Shipping Canal and the uncharitable remark made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunandihi on Lord Ram.

During the period, street corner meetings would be held in different parts of the state to educate people about Lord Ram and the effigies of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would be burnt, he said.

Mr Jena said the BYJM would extend its full support to the protest launched by various sadhus. He said the next course of action would be chalked out at the camp scheduled to be held at Cuttack in the second week of December.

Mr Jena said the morcha would also launch a membership drive and targeted to bring one lakh new members into its fold by the end of November.

In addition to it the Morcha also planned to take out processions from the birth places of freedom fighters who have contributed immensely to the freedom struggle and felicitate their family members to celebrate the completion of 150th year of first freedom movement of the country.

The procession would go round the district and culminate at the district headquarters, he said.
