Chandigarh, Oct 10 (UNI) Expressing his opposition to the opening of retail stores by Reliance Fresh and other big companies across the country, Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal said that in the long run such a policy would further aggravate the employment scenario in the state.
'' Though legally these companies cannot be banned from doing business, but the trend would only add to the number of unemployed'', he said while talking to mediapersons here today.
The Chief Minister pointed out that in the long run, the shopkeepers would not be able to withstand the pressures from the big companies. The shopkeepers would be rendered jobless as they would be forced to shut down business, he added.
The Chief Minister advised Reliance and other companies to invest in big projects that can generate employment, rather than in small ventures like opening retail outlits.
The Chief minister however made it clear that these were his personel views and he had no intention of banning the entry of any company in the retail field.
