Hoshiarpur, Oct 10 (UNI) Activists of Punjab Toll Plaza Sangarsh Committee stalled toll collection for four hours this morning at various points on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) stretches in the district.
Activists led by Comrade Mohinder Singh Badon and Manjit Singh President, Tempo Operators Union, Hoshiarpur, did not allow employees of Toll-plaza company at Nangal Shaheedan near here on Hoshiarpur- Chandigarh road to collect toll from the commuters of Balachaur- Dasuya BOT road from 1030 hrs to 1430 hrs in protest against the state government for allowing private companies to allegedly ''loot the innocent public in broad daylight.'' Similarly, activists led by Tarlochan Singh, President, Punjab Truck Operators Union did not allow the employees of toll-plaza company to collect toll from the commuters at Lachowal toll-plaza barrier on Hoshiapur-Tanda BOT road from 1100 hrs.
At Mangarh toll-plaza barrier on Hoshiarpur-Dasuya BOT road, activists led by Mukhtiar Singh, President Truck Union, Dasuya also forced the employees of toll-plaza company not to charge toll from the users of this road for about an hour.
All the speakers strongly criticised SAD-BJP leaders, who had opposed the BOT proposals when in opposition, for now allowing this ''loot'' under the pretext that BOT projects were introduced by the last Congress government.
To make matters worse, the state government had even enhanced road tax for registration of all the vehicles and was charging two per cent of the total cost of the vehicle as road tax fee, the leaders lamented.
