Amandeep wins gold in Punjab Rural Games

Hoshiarpur, Oct 10 (UNI) Amandeep Singh claimed the first gold for Bathinda by winning the 1500 meter race in the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Punjab State Rural Games for Boys u-16, which got off to a colourful start here today.

He covered the distance in 4.22.34 seconds. Darshan Singh of Sangrur bagged silver medal and Gagandeep of Gurdaspur got bronze.

Earlier, the Games were inaugurated by Parliamentary Affairs, Forests, Medical Education&Research Minister Tiksan Sood. A number of dignitaries including R P S Powar, Principal Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Services, Pargat Singh, Director Sports were present of the occasion.

About 1900 players and 150 officials are participating in the Games.

Arjuna Awardee Gurdev Singh (football) lit the flame which was carried by international Parminder Singh (basketball), Sandeep Kaur (volleyball), Manjinder Kaur (hockey), Baljit Dhillon (hockey), Mrs Saroj (hockey) and Prem Chand Dogra (body building ).

Umesh Kumar, a distinguished athlete of Hoshiarpur took oath on behalf of all participating players.
