US committed to working with Turkey, Iraq on rebels
WASHINGTON, Oct 9 (Reuters) The United States is committed to working with Turkey and Iraq on combating the PKK Kurdish rebel group that has carried out a series of attacks, White House spokesman Gordon Johndroe said today.
''The United States is committed to working with both Turkey and Iraq to combat the PKK. We know the attacks by Kurdish outlier groups are not in the interest of either Turkey or Iraq,'' Johndroe said.
He would not comment specifically on whether the White House would support Turkey authorizing a possible incursion into northern Iraq, where many are hiding, calling that a hypothetical question.
