Shimla, Oct 9 (UNI) Himachal Pradesh BJP President Jai Ram Thakur today condemned the state police for registering a sedition case against the editor, bureau chief and the reporter of a Hindi daily and said it was an attack on the fourth pillar of democracy.
''Instead of ascertaining the veracity of the news report, published in the newspaper, the police under pressure from the state government is trying to throttle democracy by registering false cases'' he said in a release here.
Mr Thakur said since it was a serious attack on the fourth pillar of the democracy, the BJP would not tolerate this.
Referring to the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, he said while incidents of rapes, robberies, thefts and kidnapping were on the rise in the state, the police was registering ''false cases'' against innocent persons.
The BJP leader urged the state DGP to retract these cases and instead concentrate on improving the law and order situation in the state.
