Shimla, Oct 9 (UNI) President of the Himachal Pradesh unit of the BJP Jai Ram Thakur today condemned the state police for registering a sedition case against the editor, bureau chief and the reporter of a Hindi daily, saying it was an attack on the fourth pillar of democracy.
Instead of ascertaining the veracity of the news report, published in the newspaper, the police under pressure from the state government was trying to throttle democracy by registering false cases, he said in a release here.
Mr Thakur said since it was a serious attack on the fourth pillar of the democracy, the BJP would not tolerate this.
Referring to the deteriorating the law and order situation in the state, he said while incidences of rapes, rob biers, thefts and kidnapping were on the rise in the state, the police was registering false cases against innocent persons.
Instead registering of registering cases against the daily's editor, bureau chief and reporter, cases should be filed against the state government and police officials, he said.
The BJP leader urged the state DGP to take back these cases and concentrate on improving the law and order situation in the state.
