SC notices on petition relating to IA, AI merger
New Delhi, Oct 9: The Supreme Court today issued notices to the Centre and the Trade Union Joint Action Committee of Indian Airlines employees in a case relating to the merger of Air India and Indian Airlines.
The notices were issued on a plea seeking the transfer of a petition pending in Bombay High Court to the Delhi High Court.
The amalgamation of the two airlines was approved on August 22, 2007 by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.
The decision was challenged in the Delhi High Court as well as in the Bombay High Court.
The petitioners, National Aviation Company of India Ltd, a government company, has sought the transfer of the petition to Delhi High Court on the grounds that since similar issues were involved in both the writ petitions therefore the same can be disposed of by a single High Court.
A bench, comprising Justices S B Sinha and H S Bedi, also issued notices to the Indian Commercial Pilots Association, the Indian Airlines Officers Association and the Air Corporation Employees Union.
