Hisar, Oct 9 (UNI) Advocating autonomy for the country's probe agencies, former Central Bureau of Investigation chief Joginder Singh today said otherwise it would be impossible to nab the influential people indulging in corruption and crime.

''Till the CBI and other espionage agencies were given autonomy for independent functioning, the guilty bureaucrats and politicians would go scot free because prior permission was needed before proceeding against the VIPs,'' said Mr Singh, who was here to take part in a function of DAV Public School, Fatehabad.

''To control the terrorist attacks, we need a strong infrastructure at local level through police stations and police posts because the activities of the ultras were not possible without the connivance of the local people,'' The ex-chief of CBI said.

The central agencies would have to co-ordinate with the local police and also seek the help of the citizens, he said stressing that vigilance, transparency and co-ordination among all agencies were required to curb militancy.
