Mumbai, Oct 9 (UNI) Horticulturists from all over the country will participate in a motor-cycle rally, that will commence on November 18 from Kanyakumari and end at Kashmir on December 11.
The participating farmers will carry a flame called 'Falodyan Kranti Jyot' that will be handed over to the President of India Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
Talking about the rally, the organiser Govindrao Pawar said, ''We want the farmers from all over the country to benefit from horticulture, as have the farmers from Maharashtra over the last 15 years.'' Mr Pawar added that the farmers today should be ready to change their mind-set in order to stay in competition. ''The traditional cash crops harvest once a year and in the event of some calamity, everything goes haywire leading the farmers to take drastic steps.
This trend should change and the farmer should have fruit bearing trees on his land,'' he pointed out.
The motor-cycle rally will consist of 500 farmers from all over the country and will also carry fruits from each state during the rally.
Mr Pawar said that many farmers from Maharashtra have changed their mind-set and prefer horticulture over traditional farming that includes one crop annually.
