Shillong, Oct 9 (UNI) The Assam government has sanctioned Rs 10 lakh to the North East Table Tennis Forum (NETTF) towards development of the sports in the region, a senior official announced here today.
This was announced by Assam Director of Sports and Youth affairs Dhruva Hazarika at the opening of the Phani Sharma India cup which begin here at the U Tirot Singh stadium today.
In his inaugural address, Hazarika said apart from the top ten table tennis players' participating in the cup, six players from the northeast were being given an opportunity to play in the biggest prize money TT tournament here.
This would give all six players from the region to participate and learn from some of the top TT players of the country, Hazarika added.
India coach, Kamlesh Mehta who also spoke on the occasion said, the power of sports was holding countries and people together. So players in the meet should also take the opportunity to foster bonds through sports, he added.
