Agartala, Oct 8 (UNI) Twenty six frontal organisations of Left Front in Tripura yesterday submitted a nine-point charter of demands with signatures of 7.5 lakh people of the state for the Prime Minister.

The party had handed over the memorandum to the two MPs from the state for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh demanding rail and highway development in this landlocked state, creation of employment opportunities and adopting of pro-people policies for upliftment of the economically backward class.

Addressing a public rally, CPI (M) Polit Bureau member and Chief Minister Manik Sarkar accused the Congress for its visionless planning at the Centre for the underdevelopment of the North East region.

He said despite huge potential of the region, the Centre had failed to bring development that had added to the burning problem of militancy in the area.

Proper development of infrastructure, connectivity, utilisation of the resources and proximity with fast economically developing South-East Asia could turn the region to the most developed one, Mr Sarkar said.

Other than more employment opportunities for the region and curbing price hike through proper public distribution system, Mr Sarkar demanded for establishment of global connectivity through Chittagong port of Bangladesh by extending rail line up to Sabroom in south district.

''These have been our demands for the past 10-15 years and we have been trying hard to make the central government understand this fact but they were not ready to accept it,'' he added.
