Manipur: Scheme for ex-servicemen

Imphal, Oct 8: In a significant development, all ex-servicemen who have retired prior to January 1, 1996 and have been drawing pension will be exempted from payment of their contribution for the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) membership, informed PIB (Defence Wing) in a statement released today.

Conveying that the ex-servicemen would have to apply for membership without any levy of fee, the PIB statement also said those who have already paid their contribution fee will be refunded for which they would be intimated once relevant instruction was received.

With the scheme enrolment slated for closure on March 31, 2008 ex-servicemen were suggested to avail of the opportunity as no medical facilities will be provided in polyclinics or armed forces hospitals to those who do not become member of the ECHS Scheme, it added.
