Gangtok, Oct 8 (UNI) Handbook for Law Enforcement on Human Trafficking developed by a Shillong-based NGO is set for release at New Delhi on October 10.
The Impulse NGO network had developed the handbook in partnership with North Eastern Police Acadmey, Meghalaya as a part of the UN programme-GIFT South Asia Regional Conference on Human Traffiking, the team leader Hasina Kharbhih said in a press statement here.
Working in collaboration with its NE state partners, government departments and law enforcement authorities, the user-friendly handbook would help the law enforcement agencies to comprehend the do's and dont's as a step forward in combatting human trafficking to the larger war on the crime which had become more mechanized, transnational and syndicated, Ms Kharbhih said.
The UN GIFT South Asia Regional Conference on human trafficking, was a leading initiative of UNODC as part of the UN Protocol against trafficking and thus UNODC was taking the lead to bring together government officials, civil society organizations, private sector and partnering with UN Agency in order to generate strategies and declare support for combating human trafficking especially the trafficking of women and children for commercial and sexual exploitation.
The Impulse NGO Network, was acting as the North East Nodal Agency in the entire process of collaboration in the South Asian Region, the release added.
Eight SAARC countries will be represented in the conference which was also a platform for sharing best practices and the crucial results of the intervention that would be pronounced as the Delhi Declaration, Ms Kharbhih said.
