The

of
National

Week
in
Mizoram
was
a
huge
success
as
85
local
hunters
had
pledged
never
to
harm
wild
animals
again.
As many as 85 hunters of several villages neighbouring Dampa Tiger Reserve in the western belt of Mizoram have surrendered their arms last week in response to the state Forest department's wildlife division's enthusiastic campaign, said Dampa Tiger Reserve field director V Lalfala.
The arms had been submitted to the Forest department in a ceremony at West Phaileng which had West Phaileng SDO (Civil) as the chief guest, who highly appreciated the act of the local hunters.
Underground militants used to surrender their arms to live civilians' life, and they were warmly welcomed. This surrendering of arms by hunters is not less important, a Forest official said at the ceremony.
