Guwahati, Oct 8 (UNI) Five prominent personalities from the fields of sports, culture and journalism will be awarded at the Eighth International Expo from October 25.
The award in the cultural field would be given to eminent painter Nil Pawan Barua and singer Dipali Borthakur and in the field of sports, Arjuna awardee archer Jayanta Talukdar and ace badminton player Krishna Deka Roja.
The award for lifetime achievement in journalism, which has been introduced this year, would be given to veteran journalist Naresh Rajkhowa.
Informing this at a press conference here yesterday, Mr M A Khan of Leo Advertising, the main organizers of the Expo said, ''The awards will be a small endeavour to recognise the achievements of our esteemed personalities.
The awards, christened the 'Leo Expo Sanman', was introduced in 2005. From giving away solitary awards in the cultural field in its debut year, awards in the sports category was introduced in the second year.
Mr Khan said, ''Our awards are in its third year and with every passing year, we plan to expand its dimension and increase the cash awards that goes along with the recognition.'' Mr Khan also informed that seven foreign countries, including Bangladesh and Thailand, would be participating in the Expo.
