Angul, Oct 8 (UNI) Several BJP activists, including Talcher MLA Mahesh Sahu, were arrested for blocking coal movement to Talcher Coalfields today.

The BJP activists, led by the party MLA, blocked coal movement by road and rail for more than five hours before they were picked up by police.

They resorted to blockade, demanding fulfillment of their five -point charter of demands, which included among other things job to all oustees of MCL, NALCO and NTPC, one per cent of annual profit diversion by the Central industries for peripheral development and stop renaming NTPC-owned Talcher Super Thermal Power plant after late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Police said Mr Sahu was arrested at Samal while enforcing the blockade.

Coal supply to NALCO and NTPC Kaniha plant was hit by the agitation.

However, no coal mine at Talcher Coalfields was affected by the stir as it was aimed at blocking coal transportation.

The local BJP leaders though announced to block the traffic on National Highway later abandoned the idea.
