Protests spark over JD(S) for not transferring power to BJP

Bangalore, Oct 7 (UNI) BJP district units and some organisations today held protest meetings in Karnataka to voice their displeasure over JD(S) not transferring power to the BJP.

Noted Industrialist and former MP from Dharwad Vijay Sankeshwar decided to quit the JD(S) over its failure to honour its commitment.

''It is wrong on part of the party do dishonour its commitment. I will be sending my resignation letter tomorrow,'' Mr Sankeshwar added.

Meanwhile, protest meetings were held in different parts of the State, including Chamarajanagara, Belgaum, Dharwad, Gadag, Gulbarga, Raichur districts and other places with protestors burning Chief Ministe H D Kumaraswamy and JD(S) president H D Deve Gowda in effigies.

In Belgaum, the district BJP unit protested against the JDS for 'cheating' the party. The party workers shouted slogans against Mr Gowda and burnt him in effigy at Kittur in Chennamma circle.

Tomorrow, various Lingayat organisations would hold protests against the attitude of the JD(S). The activists of Veerashiva Mahasabha and Veerashiva Sena Samithi have decided to take out a rally in Chamarajanagara town tomorrow against the JD(S) action.

Speaking to newspersons, Mahasabha president Nagarajappa said it would also take out a torchlight procession tonight in protest against Mr Kumaraswamy's refusal to transfer the power to BJP as per his promise. ''We will intensify the agitation in the coming days and would spread it to the other parts of the State,'' Mr Nagarajappa added.

Incidentally, former deputy chief minister and designated BJP candidate for the Chief Minister's post, B S Yediyurappa, belongs to Veerashiva community.
